Lambiek was Europe's first comics shop, and the finest of Holland. It was founded in 1968 by Kees Kousemaker on the Kerkstraat in Amsterdam. As publisher and editor of two comic encyclopedias and other related books, we are well-known for our expertise on all matters concerning comics and sequential art. The Lambiek name is derived from a popular comics character by Willy Vandersteen, one of thousands of comic artists proudly featured on this website, and something you wouldn't expect from the world's oldest comic shop. But that's just part of the legend, as the ultimate quest continues...
